China Village History Walk
Join the China Historical Society for a guided evening walk through historic China Village — a portion of the China Village Historic District. The walk steps off at 6:00 pm on Friday, July 17, 2026 (rain date Saturday, July 18).
Meet at the China Village Post Office. Parking is available at the Masonic Lodge Lot or the Church Lot.
The route follows Main Street to Neck Road, on to Canton Street and Peking Street, ending at the China Baptist Church. Along the way, knowledgeable guides will share the stories of the village:
- James Allen — the Farnsworth House and other historic buildings
- Joyce & Dick Norton — China’s business district and times past
- Pastor Ron Morrell — the history of China Baptist Church, on its 225th anniversary
- Nathan Sylvester — the Washburn family and their service to the town
The walk ends at the China Baptist Church hall, where you’ll find displays and self-guided slide shows of “old” China Village — including the business district before the fire of 1961 and Main Street before the homes lost in the fire of 1911 — along with time for conversation and remembrances.
Your host for the evening is Robin Adams Sabattus. The event is free and open to all.
China Village’s Historic District was certified by the U.S. Department of the Interior on November 11, 1977, and includes 47 buildings across 65 acres.
